CONFIDENTIALITY
One of the most important rights you have as a client is the right to confidentiality. The information you share with me during our sessions—both while we are working together and after our therapeutic relationship ends—is treated with the highest level of respect and care. Your privacy is extremely important, and I am committed to maintaining your trust.
All personal and sensitive information you disclose during the course of therapy will be kept confidential and will not be shared with anyone outside of our sessions unless you provide your informed, written consent. This includes conversations, session notes, and any other personal data that may be collected or discussed throughout the course of your care.
However, it is important to understand that there are specific exceptions to confidentiality that are legally and ethically mandated. In certain circumstances, I may be required by law to break confidentiality, even without your consent. These situations are outlined below:

- Children in Need of Protection: Nikkol is required under the Child, Family, and Community Service Act of British Columbia to report instances where it has reasonable cause to believe a child is in need of protection or may be at risk of abuse or neglect to the appropriate authorities.
- Duty to Warn – Potentially Suicidal/Homicidal/Dangerous Client: Nikkol has the duty to protect you from yourself or to protect others if you are perceived as a threat. In case of a suicide threat, a medical referral or hospitalization may be instituted. If you are considered to be dangerous to others, the police and/or threated person(s) may be informed.
- Legal Proceedings: Nikkol is required to release your information to a third party and/or to testify in a court hearing, if subpoenaed by a court of law.
At any time when she thinks she will have to put these into effect, she will have a conversation with you regarding what to expect moving forward and the reasoning behind the decision to disclosure. In addition, Nikkol occasionally consult within a clinical team for the purpose of supervision and case management in order to provide the best possible care. In the purpose of professional consultation, every effort is made to ensure your identity remains confidential. Nikkol is committed to her privacy policy and will always obtain your consent before disclosing any personal information. If you have any questions or concerns about how BC’s Personal Information Protection Act or you feel she is not adhering to her personal information policies and procedures, please don’t hesitate to contact her for additional information and to resolve any concerns.
